Hope for King!

UPDATE: . Today marks the one year anniversary of Kings liver transplant surgery. This milestone makes me pause and think on how blessed we have been. A little over a year ago we were watching our sons health decline rapidly. He already had one major surgery that unfortunately did not successfully correct his biliary atresia and then we were faced with needing a liver for him. Thank God that his solution was within our house and I was able to be his liver donor. But honestly I am grateful for each of you just as much as I am the medical team you helped us through this journey. After the transplant surgery Tyrone, King, our moms, and I lived at Duke University Hospital for 2 months using unpaid medical leave time and without your generous donations to our GoFundMe we wouldn’t have survived. Our 3 girls at home would not have survived. My family who traveled to Charlotte from Michigan and Texas would not have survived. My mom (my caregiver after the surgery - who also took an unpaid leave from work) would not have survived. Your donations helped more than words can express. We still go to Duke monthly and each drive gives me time to reflect on the wonderful people in our lives who thought enough of my family to send a little bit of their time, prayers, money, and love our way. So on this one year anniversary I’d like to say thank you to each of you. My heart is full

—————————————————————
King came into this world March 16, 2021, and he’s been smiling ever since! You’d never know the things he’s had to endure by looking at his face or watching him play with family.

Within two weeks of his birth, King was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a blockage in the ducts that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. This congenital condition occurs when the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not develop normally. 6 weeks into life, King had his first major surgery. This surgery was suppose to buy King time, allowing him to get older before the need of a liver transplant. Unfortunately, it didn’t buy enough time as King is in need of a transplant now.

After an unsuccessful match with his father was determined, King’s mother was a perfect match! Tisha Hibbler (pictured above) will be donating the left side of her liver to her only son. This is to take place Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Duke Children’s Hospital. Tisha will be in surgery for 6 plus hours while King’s surgery will be in excess of 10 hours.   Tisha’s and King’s recovery will take a few months with several check-ins with Duke’s staff to ensure organs and vitals are operating as they should.

Where do YOU fit in? Believe it or not, WE NEED YOU! We need your support as we walk this journey together.  First and foremost, we ask for your prayers for King and Tisha and all the medical staff during this very difficult and emotional surgery.  Prayers that God be with them, guide them, and watch over each of them.  Second, we ask for your financial assistance if you feel so inclined.   The immediate financial burden alone is overwhelming; hospital costs, prescription costs, time off of work, transportation/lodging/meals for all of the caregivers, care for King’s older siblings. Not to mention King will be on very expensive anti-rejection medication  for the rest of his life with continuous doctor visits to Duke Children’s hospital.

We know we are not alone in this process and feel honored that you are willing to walk this journey with us and so very proud of our sweet King’s courage and strength. In all, we can’t say enough about your sacrifice but truly want you to know YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

THANK YOU !!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
