Cumbernauld Deserves Better!

Cumbernauld Deserves Better is a campaign to encourage North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) to look at the possibility of retaining elements of the existing Cumbernauld Town Centre.

Cumbernauld is internationally important. Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has concluded that the centre building is architecturally significant and worthy of listing, but it can't be listed because NLC has made public its plans to demolish and replace it as part of a new hub. In our climate and resource emergencies, this is against national policy aims to retain assets and save embodied carbon.

We are raising money for a campaign website to bring together archival material on Cumbernauld and to provide a base for those campaigning for a wider conversation and a considered approach to the future of the town and its centre. Cumbernauld Deserves Better (CDB) is planning events, surveys and other activities to extend the public debate about the future of Cumbernauld.
