Helix vet bill
Donation protected
Helix has crossed so many people's paths since 2013 when Blue rescued him. After Blue’s passing, Helen and Nix have been giving their beloved Helix/Lix/Lixylox a warm loving home in the Borders as a deeply treasured member of the family.
As some of you know, Helix has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Any treatment will be with hope of prolonging life and keeping him as comfortable as possible, rather than curing.
A claim has been made through the insurance. However, it is not enough to cover the cost, such as not accepting multiple claims in a certain time period, for one condition and excess due to his age.
Please, help us raise enough for the bills as the supporting community that we are. If you feel you can’t help much financially at the moment, even £5 would help a lot. If not at all, then please share to encourage others to donate what they can.
I know he has such a special place in many people's hearts and that this news will likely be bringing up a lot of pain and sadness. I feel so blessed that he found his way here into his adoptive home. He's become a deeply treasured member of our family and we feel it such a privilege to be able to care for him. Still, he will always walk at Blue's feet and I can't shift the thought of needing to call Blue about it. I've always felt ending up with Helix to have been one of the many truly wonderful gifts Blue left me. For now, we will treasure every single moment - shaky leg, clack-clack, flapping ear, squeaking ball and pawing for attention.
For those who want it, a much more detailed account of Helix’s health journey is below.

The amount is an estimate of what has been charged already and the bills that will certainly follow. If we were to raise over the amount that needs to be paid, it can go toward a donation to a charity or something similar.
HEALTH DETAILS
September 2020: Helix started having issues with passing stools, loss of appetite and weight. It was initially thought to be colitis. Although improving at first, the treatment didn't work and he was then found to have an abnormal enlarged prostate.
8th December 2020: Scans and biopsy to check for prostate cancer. His symptoms are hopefully due to colitis but cancer is sadly a possibility.
22nd December: The results came back and it’s not the news we were hoping for. There were cells that are suspiciously cancerous. The vet advises to see an oncologist to know more.
January 2021: Eventually, he got an appointment at the Hospital for Small Animals where he received excellent and empathic care, staying overnight. He had lots of diagnostic tests and devastatingly, results show a prostatic carcinoma. It hasn't spread, which is positive news for today, though I've been told that it is an aggressive type and will spread 'quickly'. He had an anxious night in the hospital but is now doing alright in that sense, being showered with love and attention and is eating ok.
Current: We have an appointment with Oncology on Tuesday 19th to discuss prognosis and options for treatments. Any medication available will be to reduce pain and, potentially, extend life - if the quality of that life deems it justifiable.
