A note from Karen's heart about her journey so far....
My journey began July 17, 2008.....I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and was told that they had to take my right breast. I was devastated!! After about 7 rounds of chemotherapy, the Tumour shrunk 75%, but the breast cancer had metastasized to my bones. I decided at that time to have a double mastectomy, and had to start a bone treatment. Positivity helped me get through.....
I decided December 2013, to change my Oncologist. I was having major back pain (my bone cancer was in my spine) so I started radiation, 5 treatments, which was very painful. I got through that, and am able to walk normal and get around much easier. My new Oncologist, is amazing, and has been keeping a close eye on everything.
In January, of this year, I started having tingling in my face. Saw my family doctor, and he put me on a nasal spray, thinking it was a sinus problem. The tingling got worse, so an X-ray was in order. There was a small sinus infection, so he gave me penicillin. I took that for a week, and it didn't help. Next step was a CT scan on my head, and an MRI. My results showed that my breast cancer has metastasized again.....to my brain. It is on the outside area, not the inside. It's treatable, but not curable. Positively is key...
I saw the Radiation Oncologist for the first time on Friday , May 8, 2015. She's a Newfie!! And super sweet!! I started my first treatment May 11, 2015. I'll need 10 treatments in total, 4 weeks off of work, and unable to drive for the duration of my treatments. Oh! And I'm gonna loose all of my hair! Positive thoughts....
It'll be 7years in July that my disease has been treatable, but not curable. I plan to continue staying positive, and will get through this treatment as I did the last!
Thank you all for your support.
