About UF Fencing
The University of Florida Fencing Club is one of the premier college club fencing programs in the country. Its fencers have won countless national, regional and local medals, and the club as a whole has been 5-time USA Collegiate Fencing Club Champions. At any given time, the club has in excess of 60 competing members, making it one of the most active clubs at UF. Established in its current form in 1998, UF Fencing has historical roots reaching back over half a century and hosts an annual competition, the Green Gator, which is currently on its 52nd iteration.
A more complete account of UF Fencing's many accomplishments can be found on its website here.
What UF Fencing means to its members
The club is incredibly influential in the lives of anyone who has ever stepped foot onto the gym floor. The club provides an opportunity for new members to make friends, excel in a sport, push themselves to accomplish more than they thought possible, and to take on leadership roles. For many, the fencing club becomes the center of their social lives in college. Fencers representing UF have the ability to travel across the country and even internationally to take part in competitions and make life-long bonds. These travel opportunities wouldn't be possible without financial support from the club.
Why we are raising money
The UF Fencing Club is reliant on funding from individually-raised sources, as well as UF RecSports. This year, unfortunately, the club will be without regular funding. In order to assist in providing these meaningful opportunities to newer fencers, and to give back to the team that has given us so much, we as UF Fencing Alumni are soliciting donations from fellow alumni, as well as family and friends, on behalf of the UF Fencing team. Many former members will distinctly remember the difficult task it is to balance a college lifestyle with the costs of fencing, and can imagine how much more difficult that balance would be after the loss of several thousands of dollars in team funding.
Some friendly competition!
When you donate, be sure to mention what weapon you fence(d) so we can keep a running total and give you regular updates of the leaderboard! Help the team while making sure yours is the most generous weapon!
What you're donating to
Your money will be used to pay for travel expenses, much-needed equipment, and tournament entree fees. The club is facing the following expenses in this semester, in order of priority:
- Temple Open entrance fee and housing costs
- Entrance fees to USACFCs, the Vassar College Invitational, and the Drew Holiday Invitational
- Miscellaneous equipment
Be sure to follow the University of Florida Fencing Club on Facebook for updates on the team's successes.
How we can thank you
If you donate $50 or more to the Alumni fundraiser on behalf of the UF Fencing club, we'd like to thank you with a fencing alumni t-shirt.
