Help Cy Breathe Again

Disabled community member raising funds to address mold toxicity, covid recovery and survival needs.
Cy has experienced consistent medical neglect and progressive decline within their undiagnosed disabilities, chronic illnesses and chronic pain without access to proper care since early 2017.
Unable to work or receive disability social security from the state, Cy’s illnesses leave them consistently trapped in a cycle of physical and financial precarity, and artistic stasis. They are in need of a long-term network of care & support as they navigate erratic symptoms that are consistently debilitating, isolating, and limiting.
The consistent exposure to black mold in their living space continues to impact them cognitively and neurologically, in addition to adding to their debilitating experiences of worsening symptoms and pain. They are now recovering from covid on top of this, which has magnified their existing health issues & introduced new ones - making it all the more difficult to pursue treatment and income.
Immediate needs to alleviate initial strain on Cy include:
- an air purifier and dehumidifying supplies for their living space to prevent the spread of the existing mold
- funds to pay a significant amount of back-rent and maintain housing security
- a countertop dishwasher, to remove the inaccessible task of hand-washing dishes
- continued support for survival needs while they experience a transitional period and shifting support systems
To address the effects of mold toxicity on their bodymind, Cy will have out-of-pocket costs for:
- transportation
- medical testing
- seeing the only available local mold toxicity specialist, who is private practice
- treatment and bodywork beyond the western medical industrial complex to support in their recovery and healing
As a fellow disabled member of the world, I have been struggling alongside my friend Cy and want to see them get the care every human deserves and has a right to access. Yet, despite what a capitalist-driven society projects onto them, they are a valuable body and soul.
Disabled people deserve to rest comfortably in homes that don’t contribute to our worsening health, while being forced into isolation by the public at large in multi-pandemic times.
