My Neice Christina Pope. Mother of three. A 6 year old and a 2 1/2 year old set of twins. She is the most amazing and dedicated mother, wife, and friend. She finds the courage to get out of bed everyday, deal with this disease, and still take care of her family and their needs with grace, dignity and determination
Christina's words.....
This picture is from exactly one year ago. The very next day I felt something go wrong in my body. I have not felt well since. I have been searching for an answer all these months. I was told by various doctors that I was depressed, anxious or just having problems dealing with motherhood. If you are dealing with health problems and your doctor brushes you off or does the typical cure all of shoving antidepressants down your throat, find a new doctor. Not that antidepressants aren't useful but they don't cure Everything. After 9 months my mom dragged me to just one more doctor and I was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. The specialist estimates that I have been infected since I was 12 years old. Lyme disease is a sneaky thing that damages each person differently. It can flare up and go into remission but there is no cure for chronic lyme at this time. Some people suffer from horrible pain throughout their whole bodies on a daily basis. Fortunately I don't have joint pain (thank God!) My sympathetic and autonomic nervous system has shown the most effects from Lyme along with my liver and thyroid. It has been a rough year and it's about to get rougher as I start treatment. I have chosen not to share this on Facebook until now because I like to stay positive and I don't like the whole "poor me" attitude. When I saw this photo from a year ago It made me think of how happy I was and how happy I looked. Then I realized that by looking at my Facebook you would think I had a perfect life. The other thing I noticed when I saw this picture is how quickly your life can change. One day you might have all your ducks in a row and the next you might not be able to remember how to sign your own name. Be grateful for your health and be compassionate to those who are struggling because you could be in their shoes tomorrow. I would also like to say thank you to my family and friends who have encouraged and at times carried me through this past year.
