Christmas Party for Special Needs Classroom

Donation protected
Every year, as a thank you for your support, we make a donation in our clients honor to a charity.  This Christmas we have decided to give Christmas gifts to 10 students in a special needs classroom at Nora Elementary. We are hoping to provide both gifts to the kids, as well as purchase things for the teacher to make sure these children have what they need in the classroom to succeed.

The classroom is made up of 10 children with Autism.  They attend Nora Elementary where 83.0% of the 654 students receive free/reduced lunch.  For some of these children, this could be the only Christmas gift they receive.

This year, we want you to have the opportunity to grow what we're able to give these children by providing you the opportunity to contribute if you'd like to as well.  Anything we raise, we will match up to $500, so give what you can and know it will be doubled.

Some of our clients know that just over 19 months ago, Katie Griffin lost her husband Steve suddenly.   He was an educator and became a teacher to help kids.  Katie and Steve's son, Dylan was diagnosed with Autism at almost 3 years of age.  Steve was a tireless advocate for all kids-but none as much as special needs children.  Steve and Katie have been blessed with resources to be able to advocate for him and make sure that he has the best opportunities, and we're hoping to do the same for these kids.

Several months ago, an amazing educator Kelsey Shaum entered the Griffin families life.  Her love for her students in her Autism classroom is infectious.  She, like so many teachers spends a lot of her own money to provide her children with supplies and rewards in her classroom.  Many of her student's families struggle financially and having a child with special needs put an added strain financially on families due to lack of childcare, missed work, doctors appointments, and therapy appointments.   She and her instructional aides are a constant source of support for these children and their families.

These children and Mrs. Shaum deserve the very best at Christmas.  This year, the EnRoute Team has decided to honor Steve's legacy by providing a Christmas party for the students in her classroom.   We have asked for the kids wishlists, and Mrs. Shaum's classroom wishlist.  We are hoping to provide the children with Christmas gifts, Gift Cards for Christmas Dinner, and also sensory items such as a weighted blanket, lap pad, covers for the fluorescent lighting in the classroom, and reward items for choice time-all items that will help the classroom be a more sensory friendly place for these amazing kids.

We know that everyone has many opportunities to give this Holiday season and we appreciate your support in being able to provide these children with a Christmas to remember.
