Help Kelly Misner Fight Lymphoma

My name is Jenna McGregor and I have the best twin sister in the entire world. I decided to start this GoFundMe to help my sister fight the biggest battle of her life.

 

On October 12, 2021, our worst fears came true. All the blood tests, imaging, and biopsies confirmed that my sister definitely has Non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma.

 

My sweet sister was alone at work when she received this phone call. She was still trying to prepare lessons for the next day and her world came crashing to pieces. She called me and our Mom at the same time to tell us the news. We all cried so very hard and her husband Ben was on his way to pick her up because we didn’t think she should drive.

 

My sister has been fighting this battle for many months and probably has had this cancer for much longer than this. This cancer is slow growing which is why by the time Kelly felt and noticed a large swollen lymph node it had already progressed to Stage 3. We have been told that this cancer isn’t curable but can be treated. She is currently receiving immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

 

These treatments take a lot out of her. She is tired, in pain, nauseous and more. Her doctors said most people don’t work during these treatments or work part time. Kelly doesn’t have that choice.

 

After working for Clinton Community College as the STEM coordinator for 12 years she said goodbye to accept a great opportunity at NCCS as a high school math teacher. She made this decision with her family in mind so she could spend more time with her 3 year old son Dawson. She wanted to have the same schedule as him once he started school. Never did she realize she would be fighting cancer while starting a new job.

 

Unfortunately she doesn’t have any built up sick time like she did at CCC. She is almost out of sick time and doesn’t qualify for FMLA because she hasn’t worked for the district for 1 year.

 

I am hoping to raise money for my sister and her family so if and when she does have to go unpaid she won’t have to worry about paying her mortgage or other bills. I hate to see my sister so worried and sick. Any little bit helps.
