BRING PAULA HOME

Hello Everyone,

We are writing to provide you with an update on the work that our mother, the Rev. Dr. Paula Sanders has been doing and her current situation. Ultimately, we need your help!

In 2019, after many years in urban ministry, Rev. Paula moved to McAllen, TX to work with refugees ensnared in the Border Crisis. She worked tirelessly fundraising and visiting unjustly incarcerated adults. In 2020, Rev. Paula accepted a call to pastor New Hope Presbyterian Church in LeFaria, TX. Throughout the Covid crisis, Rev. Paula joined the ranks of pastors leading through the internet.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a decade ago, we knew it could be challenging for her to continue her work long-term. Paula's physical health has deteriorated to the point that she is now in a nursing home in Odessa, TX, paralyzed from her chest down. We as a family have been working for months to secure a suitable care facility for her here in MN and have finally been successful.

Our challenge now is transporting her home to Minnesota. A medical flight has been quoted at $22,000 and since she will not be considered a resident of MN for the first 30 days, we will also need to cover her first month (or two) of care which has been quoted at $12-15,000/month. It is our hope that by moving her back to MN, she will be able to receive the specialized medical care that she requires.

It is vital that we move my mother home before it is too late for her to physically make the trip. So, we are writing to you to ask for your support. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to cover the air ambulance and her care until medicare and medicaid kick in. Any support that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
