There are times when God presents us with an opportunity, or a calling, that provides us with greater awareness that there is more to our lives than idly walking through events, content to confine our concerns to those that immediately affect us. The book of Esther presents us with Biblical wisdom about opportunities such as these, summed up succinctly and perfectly in the phrase “for a time such as this”. I believe that we are now presented with a “time such as this” to assist my dear friend Carrie as she fights for her life. Please read her story below as I humbly pray that you would seek the Lord’s wisdom to answer the call and join her fight.
My story starts in January 2021 when I suspected that I may have breast cancer. After multiple doctor visits, screenings, and misdiagnoses throughout 2021 and into 2022, I finally received the correct diagnosis of what was actually happening in my body. On May 5th, 2022 it was official: I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer.
I began fighting it that day and I haven’t stopped. Then, in October 2022 I discovered that I actually have fungating breast cancer, which is a rare and aggressive form with a life expectancy of 6-12 months. The standard treatment for it is only palliative. Even typing those words again…..is hard to read. This news was understandably devastating, but it actually pushed me to search even harder to LIVE. I couldn’t give up hope. I just knew that my God, the God of the universe, is bigger than that! Have I had some very dark days? A huge YES! However, God has shown me over and over in ways that only He could, that He is not finished with me yet! This truth, along with the prayers of family, friends, and so many others, are what has kept me going and kept me fighting!
Since October, the various treatments I have done have kept the cancer from spreading to major organs. However, because of the extreme pain that I am experiencing and how it has advanced, I am now in need of additional treatment as soon as possible.
Then great news happened! I found Dr. Stegall at The Center for Advanced Medicine in Georgia who has had success with this type of cancer! Through my own research and speaking with others that have worked with Dr. Stegall, I feel a Peace that this is the next part of the journey that God has for me. It involves a 12-week low-dose chemotherapy protocol but unfortunately is not covered by insurance.
Throughout my entire journey, I have seen God’s amazing faithfulness in how He has provided! And now, yet again, He has supplied a source that will cover for most of the treatment at The Center! An amazing answer to prayer!
I begin my 12-week treatment in Georgia in March. Due to the bills that have accumulated since diagnosis, I find myself in a position to seek help for the required travel, lodging, living expenses for the 12 weeks, and additional medical testing outside of the treatment at The Center. I am praising God for leading me to and for providing for this next step in Georgia. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and consider this.
