Uganda Lockdown Crisis – Feeding at risk families

Donation protected

15th August 2021
Uganda has just emerged from a strict 42 day lockdown. However many restrictions such as curfew remain in place and since July anyone found guilty of not wearing a facial mask while in public places will face a fine and if they cannot pay a jail term of two months. These restrictions continue to have a negative impact on the most vulnerable families in our local communities to access food. For example many elderly were reliant on family members to provide support but now these family members are struggling to support themselves due to loss of work and are unable to support their relatives. Also many people in the community are unable to even afford a face mask which limits their movements in public places. In May of this year thanks to donations from supporters of Starlight Family   we were able to provide food supplies for approximately 1 month to 10 elderly families and 10 families with young children as well as support the children that live in the Starlight Family Children's Home(see pictures at the end). With the donations raised in this campaign so far (up to 26th July) we have supported 16 families with masks, soap and food provisions for a month. In total 74 people including children, the elderly and those with health issues were reached with just over £316 which is approximately £4.30 per person for 1 month. A report on this spending is available to download from our website  However many people still need our support as the difficulties they are facing will not go away over night. We are still seeking donations to be able to reach more people. There are an estimated 150 more people who urgently need support and the campaign total has been updated to reflect this (Please see the budget below). Even a small donation can make the difference between a family eating or not. It would also be greatly appreciated if you can share the campaign with anyone you feel might be interested in helping. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Thank you and best wishes

As Uganda enters its 3rd week of a 6 week lock down once again the most vulnerable families are being effected the hardest. In May of this year thanks to donations from supporters of we were able to provide food supplies for approximately 1 month to 10 elderly families and 10 families with young children as well as support the children that live in the Starlight Family Children's Home (see pictures at the end). We are seeking your support during the current lock down to help alleviate the suffering and hardship created for vulnerable families in our local communities. As a community member, member of the Kiboga Rotary club and director of Starlight Family charity Lukyamuzi James is well placed to know who is the most in need and as always will deliver the food brought with money raised.
UPDATE 26/07/21 The pictures below show how your support so far has reached the beneficiaries and the YouTube videos below that introduce you to some of the people that we are supporting.  Many people requested face masks as well as food as their ability to move around is extremely limited without one and is likely to continue to be even after the lockdown is lifted.  As Uganda enters the last week of the current lockdown we are hoping to continue to raise funds as not everyone has been reached yet and as many have had their sources of income stopped without compensation the difficulties faced will not go away over night. Please consider even a small donation as this can make the difference between a family eating or not. (Please visit http://starlightfamily.org/uganda-lock-down-crisis-feeding-vulnerable-families/ for a report on the spending of donations so far)
