If you have come to this page because of the article in
" The Morning Call", or the item on the seedglobalhealth@org/cathleen web page,
WELCOME!
One of the great joys in my life has been working with children, reguardless of race, gender or country. Children have many qualities in common: honesty
( brutal), energy, immagination, humor and vunerability.
In Tanzania education is universal but school aged children ages 6 to 18 recieve no preventitive services. The rudimentry screening performed in all U.S. schools guard against vision, dental and hearing problems as well as nutritional concerns. After the age of five, in Tanzania, all childhood medical visits are because of clinical symptoms. Children with growth issues, skeletal problems and vision problems are not discovered until the problems are severe.
This screening is not difficult: after instructions on how to use the instruments nursing students will perforn the testing.
This progran can spread to all nursing schools ( as faculty is taught) making nursing student vital in the care of the Tanzanian population.
My hope is that school children will be served and nursing students will begin to understand how critical their role as a nurse is. I also hope that Tanzania will see a decrease in chronic health problems.
Currently I am asking for one set of assessment tools and some first aid supplies. This includes Snellen charts (vision), stadiometers ( height), weight scales documentation tools.
I will purchase the tools through and American agency and have them transported by Touch Foundation, ( NGO in Tanzania) to Tanzania.
