Cat in Need of Surgery

Squinsh is a 3-year-old Abyssinian living in California. She has been diagnosed with a gum disease called Gingivostomatitis where bacteria grow on the teeth, causing severe and chronic inflammation of the gums. This bacterium is then transmitted through the immune system by eating/swallowing food and eventually affecting vital organs such as the heart and kidneys. Symptoms of this disease include swollen and bleeding gums. Ultimately, if not treated, the symptoms will worsen and cause a lack of appetite, weight loss; excessive salivation; and blood in the saliva. It is possible for this disease to become so painful that she will be unable to take in any food and could starve by refusing to eat. There are one of two ways to treat the disease depending on the extent of it. The first option is medical management using drugs to suppress the immune system and control the spread of bacteria. The second is a surgery where all 30 of the teeth are extracted to stop the spread of the bacteria. Due to Squinsh’s current condition, the teeth extraction surgery is what is best for her to live a healthy and normal life, God willing. After the surgery, she won’t have a normal oral cavity like other cats, however, according to many of the conversations I had with a few veterinarians this past month, teeth extractions are common in cats, therefore Squinsh will be able to eat her food just fine. I am making this GoFundMe in hopes of raising the money we need to get the surgery done as soon as possible and prevent her condition from getting worse.
