Help needed to fix a broken family

If you want to help the gay community and a family please read on. November 2014 my wife of 6 years. We married legally in Connecticut in 2010, but had a ceremony in New York in 2008. She left me and our kids, hers biologically. This is not to condemn her but to give background. The kids and I were able to maintain. My ex saw the kids once a week. February of this year it came to my attention that something was definitely amiss with my ex. I went to my state hotline for help and to protect the kids. Child protective services placed the kids with me during the investigation as they had been residing with me the entire time.
At the hearing for the case the judge said I had no standing because in Kentucky our marriage is not recognized. I was not allowed to give testimony on how I had cared for the children our entire marriage and after she left. I was not allowed any say as to what might be in the best interest of the children. The children have been placed with their God mother and both my ex and myself are only allowed supervised visitation. The kids are very upset that they cannot be in their normal situation at home with me.
I'm trying to raise $4,000 - $5,000 for legal aid so that I can at least gain joint custody. There is legal precedence for this in Kentucky. http://opinions.kycourts.net/sc/2008-SC-000484-DGE.pdf
I am pleading to my community to help my children regain their normal situation. Due to the sensitive nature and the ongoing investigations I have not given our names. Please contact me if you need to know that.
