Burt Lake Band's Office & Landscape Updates
Tax deductible
The Cheboiganing Burt Lake Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians are raising money to update their headquarters office building Brutus, MI, and the surrounding landscape. Many BLB members travel hours for monthly Tribal Council meetings and community events. We hope to raise enough money to update the aging features of the office, expand our gardens, and better support our members!
This fundraiser aims to cover the following expenses:
* Office roof replacement ($10,000)
* Updated full bathroom ($10,000)
* Handicap ramp ($3,000)
* Two additional picnic tables ($1,000)
* Outdoor pavillion for community events ($25,000)
* 32-gallon bear-resistant outdoor trash receptacle ($2,000)
* Community tools for garden care ($500)
* Additional plants and seeds for garden expansion ($2.000)
It's been an exciting year of developments in the landscape surrounding the office -- We've loved watching our new Three Sisters Garden grow abundantly, created as part of the ongoing Traditional Foods Project! Every month, we've gathered for different traditional foods teaching. Most recently, we harvested manoomin (wild rice) and learned to brew traditional teas from native herbs. This summer, we also completed the finishing touches of Izhi-Minoging Mashkikiwan (Place Where Medicines Grow Well), our healing garden! Though nearly all plants are just one year old, we are amazed to see such vibrant growth and blooms already. It's clear our plant relatives feel the community's love and encouragement as we've welcomed them back to their original homes.
We're excited at the prospect of tending to our office building as much as we've been able to work with the land. With your generous help, we can make this happen. Thanks for supporting us to support our community !
Chi-miigwetch (thanks so much)!
