SOS- Share our Stockfeed

A note from the farmers-

Farmers in the region around Orroroo are again facing an extremely dire situation. The rainfall in the region north of Orroroo has ranged from between 150mm to about 180mm for the year. We are facing a perfect storm of adverse conditions and low stock prices. Our surplus sheep and cattle have little or no value so very little or no income like in normal years. The cost of grain and hay is very high and it is not economically viable to feed this stock.

We have the choice of destroying and burying these animals or feeding them expensive grain and hay and losing money doing it. Not much of a choice.

The prime stock, although still worth something is less than half the price they were a little more than 12 months ago. It makes you wonder why the retail price of meat in the supermarkets is still so high. A more realistic price would encourage more people to buy more meat and that in turn would improve farm gate prices. A better scenario all around.

Money raised will support our endeavor to deliver donated essential stock feed to the region. We are seeking support for fuel and any mechanical repairs required for truck drivers donating their time and vehicles for this event.
