Ice Climbing World Cup

**This GoFundMe fundraiser is set up and run by the official organizing committee for this event**
Help put Durango and the San Juan Mountains on the map as a global destination for world class ice and mixed climbing! Be part of history! Durango is hosting the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup for the first time. We acquired this event from Bozeman four months ago and have been working hard to raise much needed funds. We hope to make this an annual event so we are counting on your support!
On December 15th-17th, for the first time ever, Durango will host the only UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation)/AAC (American Alpine Club) sanctioned Ice Climbing World Cup and North American Ice Climbing Championships in the United States. This is a prestigious honor as there are only five such events in the world. Competing will be some of the world’s best adult and youth ice climbers, from countries including France, Switzerland, Iran, Ireland, Canada and the United States. For our Competition Director, Marcus Garcia, this is a dream come true. Marcus has worked tirelessly to introduce this sport to the youth in his community and throughout North America. He is a UIAA board member and has developed the first USA youth mixed climbing team. His focus at this event is to build awareness and increase youth involvement in the USA. Youth athletes will be selected to represent the USA in the next UIAA Youth World Cup competition in Champagny-en-Vanoise, France next February. These events are the leading pathway to the sport gaining entry into the Winter Olympics.
The organizing committee has set up this fundraising campaign to help offset the costs related to the event. While we have managed to secure funds from our corporate sponsors and through other private donations these sponsorships do not begin to cover the costs of hosting this event. Your donations will cover:
$9,000 To complete building the competition wall and ice making.
$7,000 To fully fund the prize purse of $10,000.
$4,000 To pay fees, travel costs for judges and route setters, and other miscellaneous expenses.
Please donate an amount that feels meaningful to
you When you do, know that we are grateful for your support and that 100% of your donation will go towards funding this event. This event is free to the public so we will not be fundraising through ticket sales. If you would prefer to make a tax-deductible donation or for more information about the event go to our website www.usamixedclimbing.com.
