UK Bhangra Supports Punjab's Farmers
Donation protected
Farmer's have been peacefully protesting for over 50 days about the 3 new farming legislations in India.
Negotiations with the government have failed, so farmers are marching to Delhi in protest.
They have faced road blocks, tear gas, water cannons and police brutality on their way.
These new laws are controversial for a number of reasons, they abolish long standing agricultural subsidies known as the Minimum Support Price and enable corporations to dictate crop prices, disrupting the already unfair balance of power between farmers and the market.
We at Aston Bhangra reached out to all the UK university Bhangra Teams to organise one big collaboration. We need to acknowledge that harvest is the reason behind the joy of Bhangra. Now is the time for us to show our support and gratitude for Panjab and its farmers. Our music and dance is all a result of the kisaan's, we owe it to them for being the backbone of Bhangra. Its time for us to take a stand in solidarity and give back!
We'll be uploading a collaborative video of all our team/committee members to promote all our individual charity classes which will take place shortly after.
All money raised will be donated to causes supporting the Kisaans. We'll be splitting the proceeds between:
Punjab Kisaan Support Fund - All donations for this fund are handed to the Guru Nanak Langar Sewa Society. These donations will give the organisation an opportunity to assist impoverished families that are crying for help in these tribulant times.
Sahaita Farmer Support Project - a non-profit organisation committed to educating, supporting and uplifting the underprivileged members of society. 100% of their donations are allocated to multiple issues targeting almost all districts of Punjab.
All donations are appreciated, no matter how big or small!
