Ukraine: Help save civilians

WAR IN EUROPE

We have all been horrified by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and one of the most disturbing things about the war are the civilian victims of it.

In only three months, from 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine started, to 26 May 2022, the UN recorded 8.766 CIVILIAN casualties in the country: 4.031 killed and 4.735 injured. Among those, elderly, vulnerable, women and children. More than six million people fled Ukraine, with another eight million being internally displaced in Ukraine.

My name is Yannick and I have been volunteering in both Poland and Ukraine together with people from all around the world in esponse to Russia's war against Ukraine. During this time, we found the need to educate civilians on tactical medicine to prevent deaths.

Tactical medicine is normally used by soldiers in combat. In this war however, civilians find themselves in the middle of combat without choice. Missiles hit cities, houses, schools and hospitals daily and civilians are even targeted to generate pressure on Ukraine.

90% of combat deaths occur before reaching medical treatment facilities, of which 24.3 % were 'potentially survivable'. Tactical medicine helps saving those people with potentially survivable injuries. Tactical medicine has helped U.S. combat forces to achieve the highest casualty survival rate in history. Due to this immense success, basics of tactical medicine are taught to all soldiers in armies around the world and saves lifes daily.

This is why we need to teach tactical medicine to civilians in Ukraine!

Our plan is to visit Ukrainian villages affected by the war and teach tactical medicine to civilians and equip them with necessary medical materials. By doing this, we can reduce the number of civilian deaths.

In order to further distribute first aid personnel and material, we intend to also train and equip volunteers that stay long-term in Ukraine. These people came from all around the world to help Ukraine in this horrible situation. Many came from civilian backgrounds and now find themselves along frontlines. These volunteers work all across Ukraine together with the civilian population. Having such volunteers trained and equipped with the necessary materials helps reaching far more communities and increases the chances of a first responder being available in case of injury.

All of this costs money, which is why we are asking you to help us help!

After calculating prices, we came to following numbers and costs:
  • 270$ for one community trauma kit (supplies for saving 6-7 severely injured persons)
  • 140$ for one volunteer trauma kit (supplies for saving 3-4 severely injured persons)
  • 60$ for one training trauma kit (supplies for training a group of 10 people in tactical medicine)

We plan on raising enough for at least 100 kits each, which would amount to a total of 47.000$

Additionally to that, we need to plan for expenses like: transportation, fuel, repairs, internet, SIM cards, additional training resources and other non-foreseeable costs. We try to keep these costs to a minimum and calculate 3000$.

In total, that would give us a goal of 50.000$ to raise.
This sounds like a lot of money, but with this, we can train 1.000 people, equip 100 communities as well as 100 volunteers with trauma kits full of supplies to save hundreds of lifes!

All of the raised money goes directly towards these things!
All of our volunteers work for free and pay for all their expenses. The more we collect, the more we will be able to help.
