Ukraine Medical, Food and Accommodation Relief

I have lived and worked in Ukraine. I was in Ukraine - in Kyiv, Odessa and Poltava - in December 2021/January 2022 and have returned to Kyiv and Poltava in December 2023 and January 2024. Many of those I visited prior to the invasion are now on the run, in bomb shelters or fighting the Russian incursion. While there is a large outflux of Ukrainians to bordering countries, millions remain in Ukraine and are in need of temporary shelter.

 

 We have arranged space for 250 people in what we hope will remain a safe place. To date, Over 150 people are at the facility. The facility provides accommodation, three hot meals a day and, for those needing some treatments, there are also medical facilities available. The cost of food and accommodation is $10 Canadian per person per day. If people need medical treatment and rehabilitation, the cost for accommodation, food and medical treatment is $51 Canadian per day. These are the fees at cost --- there is no profit paid back to the institution. I am not identifying the location or name of the institution in this post for fear that it will be monitored by Russian intelligence and the location will be identified and targeted.

We are coordinating this assistance to families on a case by case basis. This is a micro, targeted initiative that can keep 250 people housed, clean and safe. At full capacity, it will cost a minimum of $2500 per day for heat, electricity, staffing and food.

 

We have all witnessed the bravery of the Ukrainian people. My wife is Ukrainian. Her entire family is still in Ukraine. We spend a part of every year visiting family in Ukraine. It is a part of me and I am heartbroken that these good people have to suffer through this brutality on the whim of a despot. I assure you that every cent that is contributed will be spent helping Ukrainians to survive this catastrophe.
