We are helping a family fleeing the Ukraine War
Donation protected
Hi, so the Hume family are fundraising to support a family from Ukraine. They have their passports and they will be coming to live with us at Hill End.
The Visa applications are in, and we are now in the process of arranging to get them from Uman, Ukraine to Hill End, England.
a journey of 1853miles.
We plan to use the humanitarian aid in Ukraine to get them into Poland. From there it’s down to us.
train travel is free but it is over crowded- our plan is to get them to Krakow- pop them in a hotel (as many as free) and then fly from Krakow to Newcastle- simple enough surely…. No!!!!
We have a pet snail which we are importing- I have desperately tried to contact Ryan Air on many occasions to see if they will allow this snail to travel in the luggage but I’m not having much luck.
If we can’t fly- we will try to get them to Amsterdam or France and we will meet them and bring them over by ferry.
So what will the money be used for?
1. Mainly for travel and emergency accommodation if needed on route. We are working with a charity who are giving us plenty of help but we need back up options.
2. If we can’t fly them in then we need to get to a ferry terminal so costs for the overnight ferries will be a big help!
3. any fund left over will be used for shopping vouchers so they can begin to rebuild their lives in a country they have never been to before- nor speak the language.
4. if we end up raising a phenomenal amount then a portion of the money will be donated to the OPORA charity who are working so hard to provide advice and free travel (currently suspended) and overnight accommodation to those fleeing from the war in Ukraine. They have been invaluable to us so far and I know we still require more help from them.
thank you so much for any help you provide! We will update everyone as and when things happen.
