Ukrainian Historic Church Preservation Fall River
Donation protected
Hi, the members of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Fall River, Massachusetts are raising money for the external preservation of their building located at 327 Center St. in Fall River. The money we are raising is to preserve the church building built by Ukrainian immigrants to Fall River in 1909. Its graceful pear-shaped Byzantine dome, supported by an octagon-shaped bell tower and topped with the three-armed Byzantine cross, is a landmark in the Globe Corners neighborhood. Its uniquely inspired architecture is the only example of its kind in Fall River and south coastal New England. The church has been listed in the Fall River Register of Significant Structures by the Fall River Historical Commission. We seek to repair the brick front steps and repaint the wooden trim of the exterior of the church building. The project aims to preserve the church's cultural historic heritage, its unique Byzantine architecture and to raise awareness of Ukrainian tradition in Fall River. We are not raising money for disaster relief in Ukraine itself, but to provide a welcoming place for the Ukrainian community in Fall River.
