Ulm Family Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hey Everyone,
This fundraiser is being created for the wonderful Ulm family. Many in the community know the Ulm family through their children or Mirium or Matthews work. Financial help is greatly needed as well as a one-story place the family can reside in while Matthew recovers.
Mirium is the Alsea Pups Preschool teacher, and Matthew is part owner of the local t-shirt shop, and he also recently started up a lawn and yard care business on the coast. Unfortunately, with his recent accident and resulting injuries, he won’t be able to work, and the family will be taking a hard financial blow.
Matthew had an accident that will take quite some time to recover from. They have been in the process of getting ready to buy a home. However, with the accident, he’ll be out of work for a while, and any plans for home buying will be pushed back.
Also, while saving and getting things in order to purchase a home of their own, they have been residing in a camper. The family has been making it work, knowing homeownership was just around the corner. However, with Matthews's injuries, the trailer will not have enough space for his recovery or Matthew to climb in and out of it.
Let them or myself know if anyone knows of a one-story place the family can reside in. The space would be for Matthew, Mirium and their youngest teenage child Eli who also has Down Syndrome.
I should also mention the family has recently celebrated Matthews 40th birthday and Matthew and Miriums 20th Anniversary! So, let’s show them some love!!
Here is what Mirium sent me about Matthews accident.
Matthew was on a month-long bow hunting trip with his friend Jordan. They went to the Eagle Cap Wilderness area and set up camp at Moss Springs Trailhead. On the first day of their journey, they made it close to 6 miles up the trail when Gus, the horse Matthew was riding, turned around on a narrow, steep part of the trail and tried to head back to camp. Matthew went to turn him back around and Gus reared up hill, Matthew hung on and the horse kept rearing and lost balance where they fell about 20 ft down into a thick pile of brush.
His friend yelled for him to get out of the way as Gus was writhing on top of him trying to get up. Matthew said he couldn’t move, his leg felt broken and his head was stuck in the brush. Gus finally got off of him and headed back to camp.
Jordan tried to help Matthew stand and ultimately Matthew sent him to get help. Luckily, Jordan had a satellite phone to call for help.
Matthew’s pelvic bone and femur were crushed. They had to make a 10 inch incision in order to go in and clean out the broken fragments of bone. They then broke part of his femur to use to reattach the ball joint or build a ball into the pelvic bone with 10 4 inch titanium screws. (I don’t know exactly)
We are being told he may possibly be released Monday or Tuesday but also taking it one day at a time. He will also be getting an MRI for his knee because it’s messed up too. He’s highly motivated to get out of here."
