Ultra’s Ultimate Challenge: Predict the Distance, Support the Cause, and Win A Prize with Surrey Hunt Sabs!

Before we know it the 2024/25 illegal barbaric hunt season will once again be upon us. To do the best we can to stop the killing we need to keep our vehicle in tip top condition so we hit the ground running at the start and hopefully keep it out of the garage for the entire season. Fuel remains expensive as ever and we cover many many miles!

Surrey Hunt Sabs are lucky enough to have on board one of the fittest guys out there. We call him “Ultra” as that is precisely what he does. In the running community an ultra is classed as any distance further than the standard marathon that being 26.2 miles (42K).

As you can imagine he is very effective in the field as doesn’t seem to have much trouble keeping up with the Hunt throughout most of the day. When the Hunt see him coming it’s always fun to see them roll their eyes and mumble a few things under their breath. Indeed when one Hunt we cover see him they about turn and immediately pack up! Definitely Ultra plays an important part in our success!

So out of season Ultra trains hard all around the country and is currently super fit and about to enter into a major event which probably, as it is so far in distance. will include him running in the dark. Off the back of this race Ultra as offered to do something quite spectacular for us. Starting in London he will run north following many canal paths. He is simply just going to keep running until he can’t run anymore and all this will be self-supported, carrying his own nutrition and fluids on his own person. He will also have to find a train station out there somewhere and crawl/hobble to wherever that may be. A real adventure, not knowing where he will end up.

The idea is for our wonderful supporters to guess how far he can go and there will be a prize for the person who guesses closest to his final mileage. The run will be recorded on a GPS and posted on-line for confirmation of his achievement. Off the back of the ultra race he is doing beforehand he may only manage a couple of miles before he keels over but who knows what this fit sab is capable of. Ultra doesn’t know himself!
