Helping Josi Through Recovery

My name is Jared McCurdy, I live in Calgary Alberta. Recently one of my best friends, Josi Spencer was involved in a very serious car accident and is lucky to be alive, as others in the vehicle were not so lucky. Josi sustained a massive amount of injuries to her body including a broken arm, leg, collarbone, and back. She also sustained multiple injuries to her abdomen that caused the surgeons to have to remove part of her intestine and bowel. The surgeries for every part of her body except her back were performed and so far have seemed to be succesful. After an MRI was performed to better evaluate her back injury, the neurological surgeon decided against performing surgery on her back, as the area it is in would be too risky. Josi does have feeling and mobility in her lower body, and has been fitted and placed in a back brace. With time Josi's back should heal, however she will be in a brace for 2-3 months and then will have to relearn how to walk once her back and leg heal, which will take a lot of physiotherapy and time. Through this time period she will not be able to work, and will be confined to a bed for indeterminate amount of time. Any money raised will go towards transporting Josi back to her home in Calgary, as well as supporting her basic needs and any medical expenses not covered by insurance. Josi will be released from Kelowna General Hospital somewhere between 1-2 weeks and her medical transportation will be one of the first costs.
