Haiti Medical Mission Trip 2018

Caring for my grandfather in an Indian rural town for two consecutive months revealed to me the deep need of effective healthcare and preventive care services in developing countries. My grandfather who was suffering from late stage Alzheimer's Disease was poorly bathed, fed and monitored further worsening his condition. This experience helped me realize that without regular check-ups and consistent basic care one's health can significantly deteriorate over time. Ever since this experience, I have been determined to increase access and quality of healthcare in underserved communities such as Haiti.
This July, I plan to continue my work in providing care for those in poverty-stricken countries but this time not to just serve one individual but hundreds more. With the support from staff from Morehouse School of Medicine and Project Medishare, twenty of my classmates and I will be traveling to one of the most impoverished areas in Haiti, the Central Plateau region of Thomonde, for a one-week (July 29th-August 5th) medical mission trip. Our trip will encompass taking physical examinations, providing vaccinations, operating mobile clinics, managing triage and holding seminars for the general population. The medical mission trip typically treats more than 900 patients weekly, many of whom have never been seen by a doctor before.
Your support will help my classmates and I to address the health needs of those in Haiti, grow as future physicians and advocate for preventative medicine! Your donation will go towards supporting my trip to Haiti and any donation that I receive above the cost of my trip will be given to further improve healthcare in Haiti, such as purchasing medical supplies. Thank you once again and have a wonderful day!
