Umi Feeds Food Truck Campaign

The Problem

Did you know that in 2019, more than 35 million people lived in food-insecure households? That's 1 in 8 Georgian's struggling with hunger, including 1 in 7 children!  As a result of COVID-19, there has been a significant incrƒease in food insecurity. It is hitting hardest in those neighborhoods that were already having a hard time before the pandemic. Because of COVID-19, it's leaving the vulnerable exposed and in dire circumstances as they fall further behind, pushing most into extreme poverty.

At highest risk are children, seniors, veterans, low-income families, the LGBTQ community, the unsheltered, and the chronically ill - many who have nutrition dependent diseases that are preventable with adequate healthy and affordable food.

Who Are We

Umi Feeds, an Atlanta-based food rescue non-profit organization dedicated to serving healthy and nutritious meals from donated surplus foods, redistributed to those who are hungry, homeless, and food insecure. I started Umi Feeds in 2015 in response to hunger and food waste. We fight hunger and divert food waste to connect the donated surplus, a much-needed resource, to individuals and families in need. Through Umi Feeds, I also wanted to show people what we can all do when we get involved—showing power and believing in the community that together we can build an equitable, sustainable, and just food system for everyone in Metro Atlanta.  In addition to our motto of spreading love through food.

Since 2015, I, and a committed team of volunteers, have been on the frontlines distributing over 30,000 meals to men, women, and children experiencing hunger and homelessness in metro Atlanta, Florida, Mississippi, and New York.

The Ask

We need your financial support to secure the operation and purchase of a fully outfitted Umi Feeds food truck to serve the hungry, homeless, and food insecure in Metro Atlanta.

Each week we pull up to senior communities, housing developments, churches, curbside, all food deserts to distribute meals to Atlantans in need, regularly in excess of 100+. The food is always free, and there's no proof of need necessary. Presently, I am serving out of my vehicle and can significantly increase the number of people served if I were in a food truck.  We often have to turn folks away because of limited storage capacity in my SUV.

We currently provide services to people who lack access to housing and lack access to a traditional grocery store. We can reach more people because of our mobile services, eliminating transportation barriers to soup kitchens, food pantries, grocery stores.  Umi Feeds' goal is to be a reliable source in making healthy food more accessible in underserved communities where access to traditional grocery stores is limited.

How You Can Help

As the winter approaches and new COVID-19 cases are on the rise, please help me continue to serve and distribute meals, blankets, and hygiene essentials, to our homeless and food-insecure communities.

Umi Feeds can expand capacity with the food truck where it's needed most and meet people where they are, literally. All the while creating a communal experience and eliminating the stigma attached to traditional food pantries.

We are sincerely grateful for your contribution, and we welcome your continued support via our website, www.umifeeds.org.

Thank you for your consideration and generous donation.

Our mission is to spread love through food, which we are doing with every stop.
