Unbanning a Banned Book in Maine
Tax deductible
The directors of Regional School District 56 recently overturned a previous decision by a panel of school staff and community members and voted to ban the book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR by Maia Kobabe from the Dirigo High School Library.
This graphic novel has been praised by major publications around the country and called "amazing," "heartfelt," and "a great resource" for high school readers.
The MWPA will accept donations to buy copies of GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR from DDG Books in Farmington. Every dollar donated will provide free copies of the book to any teenager in the area who would like to read it. DDG Books will provide the books at 20% off as part of this effort. Once the fundraiser is underway, high school students from the area can contact DDG Books to request a free copy.
Let's send a clear message against book banning in Maine!
