UNC Children's Hospital Fundraiser

Hello!  My name is Ryan Burke, and I am a rising Sophomore at Broughton High School.  The COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many people in many different ways, and one group that concerns me are children.  There are thousands of children who are undergoing cancer treatment during this difficult time, and 40% of the UNC Children's Cancer Hospital patients (Chapel Hill location) are food insecure.   I have been working with the team at UNC Children's Hospital to determine the best ways to assist and directly impact the pediatric cancer patients and their families.  The overwhelming response from the team was for Starbucks gift cards and Pop-Tarts!  Families travel great distances for treatments and often do not have food.  Mainly, the families get up extremely early and miss breakfast, so the Starbucks gift cards are greatly appreciated for breakfast (and often lunch) from the Starbucks located inside the hospital.  While UNC Children's Hospital works with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC to stock their food pantry, they don't have Pop-Tarts and the patients often request them! Until Sunday, August 16th, I will be collecting money to go towards individual $5 Starbucks gift cards and boxes of Pop-Tarts for UNC Children's Hospital.  Along with your help, I am hoping to help make these young patients smile during this difficult time.  Thank you!
