Let's get Joann to her son!

Donation protected
If you're a student at UNC, chances are at some point in your college career you've been able to safely walk through the South Rd/Stadium Dr intersection while continuing to stare at your phone or listen to your music, all thanks to Joann's continued dedication to keeping you safe. We came across her story on Humans of UNC 's Facebook page and you should definitely read it below:

"I grew up in Georgia. Athens, Georgia. I loved it, like I said I was a home-body there too. I’ve never been a going person or whatever so I’m just pretty much laid back. Like I said, I’ve been working all my life. I’ve been working ever since I was 16. I liked having my own money. I started in the school programs or whatever when I was home. I’ve been on my own since 18, you know it’s just something I wanted to do.

Now that I’m getting older I think I really want to travel. My oldest son is in Arizona, so I would like to go to Arizona. I want to go to Hawaii one day. So now my focus is, I’m just getting older, I just want to travel so if I could make that happen then I’d be a happy person." (excerpt from Humans of UNC)

In the spirit of giving back to the Carolina community, we are calling out to every Tar Heel who, even for a day, has been impacted by Joann's commitement to our school and community. If every person who comes across Joann on a daily basis were to give up a single drink at Starbucks, or that frosty from Wendy's and gave a few dollars as a thank you to this lovely woman's time and effort, think of how fast we could get Joann to see her son in Arizona!

UPDATE: Joann has been made aware of the campaign set up for her, and we plan on meeting with her on Friday, Nov. 3rd to close the campaign and present her with her gift on behalf of the Tar Heel community! She could not be more grateful that our UNC community as a whole has shown her so much love & kindness :) Thank you all so, so much for surrounding such a special & loving woman with endless amounts of appreciation!

Edit for GoFundMe: Joann Isom is a crossing guard at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is known and appreciated by many students in the community, including myself, and the response to this campaign is a representation of the gratitude we have for her as a school. Joann will be added to the account as a beneficiary this afternoon, Friday 11/3/2017, during an event hosted by the UNC Student Union where she will formally be presented with the total sum of her campaign.
