Unci Beverly's Journey: A Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Oncology. On Call. Oh Gee. Trying to find the words to understand and understanding the growl of “what the F’-?”.
I’ve always known what Oncology meant. I’ve always walked by the Oncology Department, my gut turning because I knew people that walked through “that” door were fighting for their lives. Stomach turning and feeling guilty that “that” was not my destination. And now. Ugh. For real.
We are now ready to share. Thank you to those who showed great respect and held in your hearts the turmoil our family endured since early January. Our family learned a lot about boundaries.
On January 6th, Unci went to her doctor because she was experiencing “stomach pain.” She was immediately admitted to the ER/hospital for a suspicion of pancreatic cancer. After two weeks in the hospital, cancer diagnosis confirmed, she was stable enough to return home. On February 3, she began the first round of 8 chemotherapy treatments. These treatments will last for a minimum of four months and will most likely last as long as 8-12 months.
Beverly, our Lakota grandmother, Two Spirit activist, Kunsi Keya visionary, mother, friend, and community leader needs your support.
Pam, Unci’s wife, spiritual partner, and steward of KKT land, needs your support.
Lushanya, Unci’s youngest daughter, Sundance keeper and Executive Director of the KKT vision, needs your support.
We are facing 9-12 months of loss of income, medical bills and supplies, and organizational transition.
Our Kunsi Keya visionaries need your personal support. Support can be letters or cards, physical support at Kunsi Keya, monetary donations, and prayers.
Your support can be checking this CaringBridge site for updates rather than inquiring directly through Unci Beverly, Pam or Lushanya. We will post updates here, we can assure you we will keep you informed and engaged.
Kunsi Keya, as an organization, is growing steadily and strong with progressive organizational structures and leadership. Please continue to support Kunsi Keya as an organization and our spiritual home. Kunsi Keya needs your faith and commitment to serve our larger community for the next seven generations to come,
