The People Surf Project

We are a group of motivated local community members looking to make a positive change in people's lives by introducing them to the ocean and promoting messages about health and the environment to kids in vulnerable situations. Our goal is to be able to give children of color and minority communities the opportunity to grow their confidence and learn to enjoy the magic of surfing.
With your support, we are able to bring free surfboards and equipment to kids in impoverished regions in Mexico to motivate them to stay healthy, out of trouble, and connected with the environment.
Currently, we have around 70 boards that we are planning on taking down to Mexico. We are in need of support to ship the boards down, clean them and repair them to get them into usable conditions for the kids to enjoy.
With this budget will be able to transport the surfboards from Northen California to Ensedada Mexico, clean, repair and do a 2 day activity to leave the equipment in diferent communities down the coast, Punta Abreojos Baja California, Mazatlan, Sayulita, Pascuales, Nexpa, La Saladita, Playa Bonfil, Chacahua and Puerto Escondido. Always working with the local people on each place.
How this started: On our family road trip down to Mexico in late 2018, we collected old surfboards and surf equipment from friends and brought these to a low income community near Acapulco, Mexico. We decided to bring the local kids together for a fun, educational day of outdoor activities and environmental learning. We introduced daily activities such as yoga, breathwork and healthy lifestyle choices in hopes that they may incorporate them into their daily lives.
17 kids between the ages of 7 and 16 took part in this experience. We also collaborated with Surfeando Sonrisas, a Nonprofit supporting kids with different abilities.
The donated surfboards are stored at the local surf shop for the kids to use for free.
