Unexpected Death Expenses Wife and Mother
My heart sank as I got a frantic phone call from her husband, Jack asking me what hospital I was in with my son. Ironically, I was in the very ER my best friend had been rushed to with internal bleeding. He was desperate to know something, anything. I was able to relay that they were working her up, transfusing blood and in an intensive environment. That was all I could get. Oh how I wished I could have been there with her...being a nurse, she had to know her condition was critical. Covid kept Jack and I from her...she coded. She was stabilized and transported to a sister hospital with trauma capabilities. Emergency surgery and she coded again..she was bleeding out..surgery came and in the end, the surgeon advised Jack that it “didn’t look good”. Thing is, he doesn’t know our Lala, Laurie, Laurelle. She’s a fighter and she doesn’t lose.......
soon after, clergy arrived to break the unbelievable news that she lost her fight. She was gone. After calling Jellie, he called me. We wept. Profusely. Uncontrollably. So surreal. The heartache of losing her, imagining life without her....she was gone. In an instant.
Gone are the midnight calls to talk about the kids, our medical jargon with work, girl talk and life in general... she always knew the right things to say. Way more wiserthan her years. I always told her it was because she was from Brooklyn and she gotup 3 days ago to be ready for todayher usual response: “shush “ then we would laugh...she would set a scenario with her trademark term “whatimsif” meaning “what if” I used to stop her every time and mock her.. before too long it just became part of the vocabulary. She loved sharing stories from her days in Park Slope, Running the streets or sitting on the stoops- her stories always detailed and entertaining made me feel as if I were there..Brooklyn is where her heart was..That is until she found the love of her life in Tampa. Jackand Lala brought home a beautiful souvenir from their honeymoon. They named him Jayden ❤️ He is growing into a fine young man. Alas, with the foundation she set for them Jack and Jayden must learn to navigate these waters on their own... Jellie and her family live out of state serving our country...
She was proud to serve our veterans through her employment with the VA. She had a finesse with even the most difficult patients. Shortly after we met in nursing school, I told her she was born to be a nurse. It just came so naturally to her. I saw her care on many levels but loved it the most when she would help me care for my quadriplegic son. She had a gift...
The world got a bit dimmer yesterday when she departed to paradise. God no doubt told her job well done..and she rests in the arms of our Father...
The unexpected and untimely departure has left her husband and family with a deep void nothing could fill. They must learn how to get by. So many friends have asked me about a GO FUND ME so here it is.I thank you in advance for the love and contribution that will surely help the family navigate these tumultuous times. Final arrangements are being made and the family will announce when they will receive friends for a celebration of life.
One thing is for sure ...she had so many friends who she truly loved and cultivated relationships that were meaningful and lasting and none of us will ever, ever be the same.
