Unexpected Water Heater Replacement

Our family has incurred an unexpected expense. After 15 years, our water heater has finally gone out! As such, we had to get it replaced. This is on top of two other recent plumbing related issues we had, which totaled over $1,000 to repair.
Since our house was built, the building codes that allowed for us to have the capacity of water heater that we've been using are no longer allowable. The new water heater that we had to purchase was much more expensive than we anticipated, and beyond any costs that we can fully cover on our own.
