Uniform Project Barangay Masili, Philippines

Hi, my name is Ally. This summer I was able to visit my dad’s hometown in the Philippines and became inspired to start a project that would help the children of the barangay (community).

I noticed there were tons of kids that were out and about during school hours. I learned that some families could not afford the cost of a mandatory uniform which ranges from 500-600 pesos for boys ($9-11) and can cost 1000 pesos ($18) for girls (because girls have to wear dresses and skirts). Of course, they need at least 2 uniforms so they can wear a clean uniform while they wash the soiled.

SO this means it’s less expensive to send boys to school and that girls might not be able to attend if they already have a brother enrolled. Research and data prove that when girls become educated, their families and communities are more likely to grow and prosper!

Let’s say there are 100 kids whose families truly cannot afford to purchase the uniform but would love to send their child(ren) to school. The cost for each student to receive 2 uniforms would be approx. 150,000 pesos ($2757).

For 100 kids, that is $27 per child to be able to attend school!

I am extremely grateful that I can afford to send my child to school and fully understand that not everyone has this privilege.

My goal is to raise the funds to send 100 kids in Barangay Masili to school by purchasing their uniform for the school year. Any amount is appreciated and your generosity is truly valued and celebrated!
