https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.poughkeepsiejournal.com/amp/2736400002 On December 23rd at 5:30 am I received a phone call. On the other end of the line was one of my best friends of 14+ years. She told me she was in an ambulance on her way to the hospital because someone had broken into her home. She had been physically and sexually abused and her 5 year old daughter (although untouched, thank god)  was witness to the violence. I was utterly blindsided. In a MILLION years you will never be prepared for a phone call like this nor do you want to believe that something like this could happen to you or someone you know.

This strong and amazing woman spent that week in the hospital (including Christmas Day). She underwent back surgery to put her spine back together after being thrown down her stairs. The day after surgery she was walking. The bruises around her neck (from being choked unconscious) and on the rest of her body were starting to heal. Throughout this whole ordeal she kept her spirits up as best as she could and never once thought about giving up mentally, emotionally or physically for herself and for her daughter.
I was there everyday watching her in awe, so proud and grateful that I’m still able to call this bad ass woman my friend.

Flash to now- She is still in pain and will be starting physical therapy soon to find out how much mobility she will be able to get back. She is now currently figuring out what her new living situation will be. The safety and comfortablilty she created as a home owner, was taken from her. She never had a choice. So many things from this situation are unfair, unjust and cannot be undone. Yet, she has stayed positive and tried to keep her and her daughters life as normal as possible.

ANYTHING anyone can do to help them get back on their feet and start a fresh new beginning would be immensely appreciated. My hope for my friend is for her to be able to buy a new house as soon as possible. To have a beautiful home again with her sweet daughter where they can feel safe and normal again. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if nothing else just keep sending positive thoughts our way!
