Unite Together: Support Jackie Ellis in Her Stroke Recovery

Hi, my name is Tiffany Ellis. I am Jackie's daughter-in-law in Coweta, OK. I come to you today with a request that weighs heavy on my heart. Our beloved Jackie Ellis, a dedicated English and former Drama teacher, has recently encountered a life-changing event on March 28th, 2024, the day before her 66th Birthday - a dissection of vessels in her brain, causing a stroke. Jackie's brilliance, both intellectually and humorously, has always shone brightly in so many lives. Her passion for teaching, her infectious enthusiasm for literature, and her dedication to nurturing her students have left a mark on all of us. I am creating this GoFundMe to help raise funds for Jackie's medical care, aftercare and living expenses.

Since the event, Jackie has been in the NeuroTrauma ICU at Ascension St. John's. The dissection seemed to be a pretty rare event, which caused the doctors to wait and see for a bit, while also consulting other doctors on what they believed was the best way to proceed. On April 4th, the family and doctors decided that the surgery was the best course of action.

After the surgery, Jackie has been unable to come off the ventilator that is helping her breathe for any length of time, and has also developed pneumonia, but we know how tough she is. She is a fighter. Currently, we are hoping to have her taken off the ventilator and completely breathing on her own soon, however, that is just the first step on the long road to recovery.

The journey ahead is fraught with challenges - from medical expenses to rehabilitation costs - and the burden may seem insurmountable at times. However, I firmly believe that together, as a community united in love, we can help alleviate some of the weight that Jackie now carries.

Jackie's sharp wit and keen intellect have not only enriched our lives but have also inspired countless students to embrace learning with joy and curiosity. Her dry sense of humor has brightened even the dreariest of days. Now, it is our turn to repay her kindness, to show her the same compassion and support that she has so generously bestowed upon others.

Specific prayer requests:

-Let the swelling in her throat subside and allow her to be taken off the ventilator.

-The antibiotics to begin healing her body, including clearing up the pneumonia and clearing her lungs.

-Her left side to continue to gain strength.

-Her to regain the ability to swallow, so that one day she may be able to eat & drink again without a feeding tube or IV. None of us knows how she is making it without her Sonic Diet Pepsi.
