University Health Science Course

Tânisi friends and family, I am currently on my first year of my Indigenous Midwifery Program through NICM. I have completed the Introduction to Indigenous Midwifery which leads me to the next step in completing the Health Science Course through Athabasca University. Health science is one of the three domains of the IME framework and an important part of becoming a midwife.
This program does not qualify for post-secondary funding through Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Woodland Cree or any technical institutes to provide funding. I have reached out to other organizations and funding departments to allocate sponsorship and I have had no luck. The deadline to apply for my course is October 30th, 2023, We are coming very close to the deadline so I hope to raise as much funds as I can to help cover my tuition.
This course is extremely beneficial and crucial for the success of Maternal Health Care within Saskatchewan, I am one out of four students that is currently enrolled in the Indigenous Midwifery Program. I’ve been an aspiring Midwife for as long as I can remember, the vision started in 2015 to be where I am today. I believe it takes a community to bring midwifery/birth home and supporting me in this journey will take us in that direction.
