Jeff Moxham or "Mox" as most know him by, friend, brother, father, son, husband, is one of the most giving individuals we have ever known. In 2016, Jeff was paralyzed from the waist down during a tragic accident. He was leaving the garage where he works when the 14 x 14 industrial garage door fell and hit him. He was pinned under the door which caused a significant spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed. Jeff is eternally thankful and grateful for the love and support he has regularly received since that day. After the accident due to many, many generous friends, family, and even strangers who heard of his story, Jeff’s home was remodeled and enlarged to accommodate his injury and needs. Jeff is so appreciative to be back in his home in Brookfield where his daughter Hannah grew up. Hannah is attending college and will be a junior already this coming fall 2019.

However, since the accident, the nueropathic pain caused by the spinal cord injury is getting worse. Of all the significant challenges he faces every day.....the 24/7 pain is by far the worst and most serious. Jeff has been and is actively seeking medical help for the injury and for the constant pain. Over the years, Jeff has been to a number of spinal cord injury specialists and pain specialists. He has seen several specialists at Yale and traveled into New York City more than once. He has tried just about every drug available and has been in the operating room 4 times trying spinal cord stimulators and pain pump trials. To date, nothing has helped with the injury or relieved the pain. Next on Jeff's list is a trip to Denver Colorado at the end of July for a three day evaluation at The Craig Hospital  which specializes in spinal cord injuries.  Jeff is considering a very serious, permanent surgical procedure called DREZ.

"Dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) lesioning is a type of surgery for nerve pain that is used when conservative treatments have not alleviated the patient’s symptoms. This surgery may treat sensory nerve damage by destroying the area where damaged nerves join the central nervous system. This intercepts pain messages from nerves to the brain. The place where the body’s sensory nerve fibers enter the spinal cord is called the dorsal root. It is through the dorsal root that the nerve fibers send the brain messages about sensations such as touch, temperature, and pain. After an injury to the sensory nerves, changes take place that cause abnormal pain sensations. In patients with these types of nerve injuries, the best treatment for their pain is to destroy the abnormally active cells.”

Please join us for a great day of golf at the Mox Open! And if you don't play golf come on out to Candlewood Valley Country Club and say hello to Jeff and his friends and family. Thank you again for all your thoughts, prayers, love and support. It truly does make a difference.

Proceeds from The Mox Open will be used for medical bills, rehab, and recovery as Jeff and his family continue to adjust to his new challenges. Thank you for your support, and 'Follow Through for Jeff!'
