THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED! I WILL UPDATE AS SOON AS I HAVE THE LEGAL ADVICE!!
A few weeks ago, I filed a complaint to Engineers & Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) against a school district and a staff member for violating several sections of the BC Professional Governance Act.
A few weeks ago, I filed a complaint to Engineers & Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) against a school district and a staff member for violating several sections of the BC Professional Governance Act.
The complaint is being taken seriously. EGBC has already requested some action be taken. Ultimately, I hope that school districts & other organizations are required to ensure licensed Professional Engineers - not medical officers of health - are retained to design and verify building safety with respect to ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force guidance.
I want to make as much of the complaint public as possible. I believe it will put other school districts & organizations on notice, and could be useful as a template for action in other jurisdictions.
I have been advised that I need to be very careful in making the complaint public, or I could face libel / defamation claims that could detract from the validity of the complaint.
I would like to retain a reputable libel lawyer, Alan McConchie, to provide advice regarding how I can make as much of the complaint public as possible.
His retainer is $2500, and he hopes the final fee will be less. I cannot afford this fee, especially since I am off work due to unsafe schools and the risk posed to me as an immunocompromised parent.
I am humbly seeking contributions to this retainer fee. I will post the final invoice for legal fees and transfer any excess to Protect BC (https://protectbc.ca/) to help cover their outreach costs.
Thank you so very much in advance for your support and your continued advocacy for COVID safety!
