UNMC Nurse & Son Starting Over After Fire
Donation protected
My name is Tayliyah and my mom Takiya is a dedicated nurse at Nebraska Medicine. She raised my sister Tamia and I to value our community. We both graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with bachelor’s degrees. She is the eldest of her 7 siblings and has taken care of people her entire life. On August 27, 2023, Takiya was at her home in Raintree Apartments in Omaha, Nebraska where she had recently moved. She was startled by a neighbor pounding on her door yelling that the building was on fire. When she opened the door, she saw flames on the third floor above her and ran out as fast as she could. She was in complete shock. She was not able to grab anything, not even her car keys. Due to the negligence of a neighbor, my mom and brother lost everything. My mom watched as the fire quickly became a three-alarm fire. They did not have renters’ insurance, it was an oversight. In helping so many people my mom forgot to add it. My brother was with me at the time of the fire, so he didn't witness it. However, he is sad that all his items are gone and brings up something he misses from his old home daily. Thankfully no lives were lost in the fire.
My mom and brother could use your help. Takiya was able to find another apartment, and now she must purchase everything from scratch. Any household items (towels, kitchen utensils, oven mitts, bathmats, laundry baskets etc.), furniture, clothing (my brother is a size large and 12/14 in boys), or monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. I've watched my mom work hard her entire life. It would be a huge blessing to see the love she gives daily to people, come back around to her. If you can do so, please help my family by contributing.
