A Helping Hand For Jess

HELP is needed after a car accident has left passenger, Jess, in constant pain and debt after injury.
A five car pile up on the Ginninderra Drive Extension in 2017 has resulted in three years of pain and compromise for 26 year old Jess Barnier.
Each day is a battle, with Jess’s ability to lead a “normal” life being limited by constant pain and the inability to sleep and work.
A glimmer of hope appeared recently when a respected local neurosurgeon said there was a possibility of some relief with decompression spinal surgery.
With her symptoms continuing to get worse and other options exhausted, Jess and her family pursued the next step in moving forward with the decompression surgery, only to be informed that the third party insurance company declined to cover the costs.
At the point of collapse, and risk of further damage, the surgery was brought forward with the only option being to use the private hospital system. This meant the hospital, theatre, anaesthesiologist, surgeon, and after care expenses all have to be paid in full, with no rebates available to Jess and her family.
Unable to work due to chronic pain, Jess has had to utilise all of her savings and superannuation to cover the hospital admission fee of $7,500 for her first surgery, just three weeks ago (09 September 2020). The total of the surgery at this point is likely to be in excess of $20,000.
Early signs post surgery were great! No pain and full movement, something Jess had longed to feel. However, the following weeks would determine if the revision of the damage had been a success for Jess and her chronic pain.
Sadly, three weeks post-op and it looks like Jess will need to endure a second operation as her previous pain and symptoms have returned.
Having already drawn on all she was able to foot the bill of the first surgery, and being left crippled financially, it is now time to ask for help to cover the costs of the second surgery.
If what Jess has been facing after the accident wasn’t hard enough, she and her Dad (Wal) have also had to care for her Mum (Bin) in her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer.
This beautiful family who do so much for others have fought battle after battle. It would mean the world to them for Jess to be able to have her second surgery without the financial worry to follow for years to come. Any contribution no matter how big or small helps and is appreciated beyond words.
