Out of the Ashes, #CreekFire, Teresa Heitzman
Donation protected
Like so many in California, my niece Teresa Heitzman, suffered a total loss to her home in Shaver Lake because of the fast-moving #Creekfire. She and her husband Tom spent years building the family home. Board by board it slowly came together, a place to raise their family.
Tom worked in the logging industry and was very aware of the importance of maintaining a “defensible space”. This fire was so hot and so fast even the 100 ft plus defensible space could not protect her home and all the memories.
Tom became ill almost two years ago and despite a hard-fought battle he lost that fight 3 months ago. Teresa provided 24-hour care for him which has left her physically, emotionally and financially exhausted.
Not having Tom to help move forward, will be very difficult. Family and friends are rallying behind her and together helping to rebuild her life.
Those who wish to help Teresa are a true blessing. At this time, the Red Cross is temporarily housing her, her daughter and granddaughter in a motel in Fresno. We have set up an account for anyone who wishes to donate. Please know that all donations will go directly for living expenses, cost of rebuilding and property restoration.
On behalf of Teresa and the family, thank you and God bless.
