This May, I am starting my own music festival "Dot The Line" in Korea. DOT THE LINE webpage
DOT THE LINE is new music festival that bridges composer, performer, and audience in Korea and other country (composers are from Korea, USA, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore) . This year, the festival presents three concerts in Seoul (May 24 & 25) and Jeonju (May 31) programing saxophone and piano music.
DOT THE LINE was born because:
First, I want to stop apologizing to people for playing new music. When I gave a concert with all commissioned pieces in Korea in 2017, quite many people doubted if the concert will be successful. Some of them told me that I should only program old pieces.
I have played solo and ensemble works by living composers. I enjoy learning and performing new pieces. I think composers of our time write beautiful music just like Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and any other white male dead composers did.
The concert in 2017 was successful. People loved the concert. I want to keep this tradition going. Every year, I will push the envelop little by little.
Second, I want to support composers and performers in their early and mid career. Don't we hear enough numbers of performance by the familiar name all year round? Is only performances or compositions by world famous musicians worthy of attention? I am not even close to "well-known", but I think I play piano quite decently. In 2019 Dot The Line, we have absolutely great music and fabulous players.
Your generous donations will be used for artist fees and transportation fees (Seoul-Jeonju).
I will be raising fund for the festival by May 18, which is my birthday. Consider giving me a nice birthday present by supporting Dot The Line and new music! I will appreciate even $1!
Thank you!
