The mission of our organization, UPAVIM, is to empower the women of our community, giving them an opportunity to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. We pursue this mission by giving them access to education, employment opportunities, daycare services for their children, health care services, and personal and professional development programs.

The UPAVIM Montessori elementary school provides low-cost, quality education close to home in a safe and supportive environment.

In a neighborhood where most children only finish 5th or 6th grade, most UPAVIM students continue studying after elementary school, many completing high school and college- which is a significant achievement for families in La Esperanza, Guatemala!

A good education is a key to breaking the cycle of poverty that pervades the community of La Esperanza in Guatemala City. Since 2000, UPAVIM's K-6 Montessori School provides over 150 children from neighboring communities with a school where they study in a safe and stimulating atmosphere. The K-6 Montessori School inspires students to have a desire for learning to motivate them to continue in their education. They are also exposed to the values and personal skills needed to become informed and active members of their community and country. Help us fund this important school!

We need to raise $5,000 to help fund the costs of the school. This means we only need 50 people to donate $100 each! As a special token of our appreciation, each donation of $100 or more will receive a handmade ornament from the UPAVIM sewing cooperative just in time for the holidays!

As a cooperative, volunteer-run organization, 100% of donations to UPAVIM go directly towards program costs and will pay for teacher salaries, teacher training, school supplies, Montessori teaching materials, electricity and building repairs, books, and more.
