Penn Men's Club Soccer to Nationals
Donation protected
After months of hard work, Penn Men's Club Soccer, “Dolphinos”, went undefeated (6-0-1) in the regular season and managed to qualify for the Annual Regional tournament by winning the Philadelphia Division. The Regional tournament took place in Delaware this past weekend.
With some of our best play of the season, the Dolphinos managed to overcome all odds and again go undefeated through five games to become the 15th Annual Region 1 Champions. This is the first time in recent memory this has happened (we aren't so good with keeping official records).
As a reward for our performance at the Region I Tournament, the team has qualified for the College Club Soccer Championship National Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona from Nov 16-19. This is the first time the team has qualified for the National Tournament by winning the regional tournament; the last time our team went to nationals (5 years ago), we got our spot as part of a random lottery, rather than earning our qualification.
As a club sports team we receive limited funding from the university, which we use in combination with money from each of our players to cover our basic needs including travel expenses, uniforms, games, referees and tournament fees. However, the cost of Nationals, including tournament entry fees, flights, and accommodation expenses, is quite out of reach for us. We currently have a 24 man roster, and ideally all of us would be able to go. Five years ago when the team last went to nationals, we were only able to cover the cost for a roster of 18 players, forced to leave behind several players despite their hard work during the season.
We are a completely student-run organization that has brought together students from all different backgrounds due to their shared love of soccer. Therefore we are making a plea to all of you: Please help us ensure that all of us will be traveling to Phoenix by giving us whatever donation you might be able to.
Much Thanks,
Penn Men’s Club Soccer
