Athens Fire Dept Community Outreach

Donation protected
The Athens Fire Department (OH) is seeking donations for the purposes of community outreach and fire prevention.  The donations will be used for the purchase of a multi-purpose fire education trailer, the restoration of an antique firetruck, and smoke detectors for the community.

The current fire prevention trailer was built in 1997 by the members of the department.  A cargo trailer was purchased, and retrofitted with the help of community donors.  Although the trailer has served its purpose, it is not ADA compliant and has run its course.  The goal is to replace the trailer with a properly designed, commercialized trailer that is multi-functional.  The trailer will provide training and education for all age groups in fire and storm related emergencies.  It will also provide a command post capability for large incidents.

The firetruck is a 1938 Seagrave Pumper that was purchased in May of 1938.  This pumper was in service until approximately 1970.  Our goal is to restore the pumper for use in parades, fire safety promotion, and firefighter funerals within the region.  Athens is the most poverty stricken county in Ohio.  Our final goal is to ensure that every home in Athens County Ohio has a working smoke detector.  The Athens Fire Department reserves the right to use any overage that may occur once the goals are met for community support functions.

The Athens Fire Department is a tax exempt, not for profit organization.
