Upper Wharfedale Rural Watch
Donation protected
The Upper Wharfedale Rural Watch was born in the Spring of 2019 after a series of discussions between the local community, North Yorkshire Police and the Skipton NFU. The aim of the group was and continues to be to reduce quad bike thefts and other criminal activity within the area.
The scheme has gone from strength to strength. We now have:
Over 140 community members and 20+ police officers involved with the Whats app group.
15 members of the group who are Police Volunteers and cleared through the police vetting system
30 group radios to help vital communications when members are out on the watch
30 dash cams which we have in vehicles to ensure safety of those out on the watch
We formed a committee in February 2020 to enable the group to raise vital funds to ensure that we can continue to strive forward in helping the police to reduce crime in the rural communities that we live and work.
Some successes of the group since it was established are:
9 quad bikes and a scramble bike recovered
4 arrested for firearms offences
2 stolen vehicles found after the number plates were put on Whats app group by the police
Located many door step seller so police could remove them from the area
17 poaching offences reported since June 2020
Vital information gathered and vehicles stopped by police for off road offences that are damaging our area
Attempted farm theft, 2 arrested following information supplied by the group
The group will have stopped many more incidents from happening but it is hard to put a number on this.
We have great support from the police and the Upper Wharfedale Rural Watch has won praise from the Chief Constable (Lisa Winward) of NYP. We have been supported by the Skipton NFU, council and local donations which has helped the group so far, however we have ongoing costs that need to be met each month which is the reason for setting up this page.
The main cost to the group are the radios which we have been able to meet the cost of however there has now been some changes in the terms of our contract and these have doubled to £1000 a year. There is also some equipment that would make our role more efficient and aid the safety of our members.
In these difficult times it is hard to do fundraising events as we had planned hence the reason for setting up this page.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this
