Upside Down & Backwards

Mick Fambro was born and raised in West Philly. As a kid, he fell in love with a guitar hanging in a pawn shop window and talked his grandmother into getting it for him (well - for his brother actually - but that's another story...) A few months later, he found himself enrolled in a summer music program. The teacher walked in, took one look at little Mick and said, “Well, first - you’ve got to turn that thing around.” As a lefty, Mick had just flipped the guitar over without bothering to re-string it and taught himself a couple of tunes before classes began. Faced with the insistence that he start over and learn the “right” way, Mick left and never took another lesson. This became the pattern of his life and the story told in this documentary.
Using archival footage, interviews, and an original soundtrack, Upside Down & Backwards challenges viewers as it explores the struggle to remain authentic in a world determined to package and relate to us in prescribed ways. At the same time, this documentary lifts up the musical magic, quirky humor, confident humility, and creative resiliency that inspired those who knew “Miche” (his stage name) and those who will come to know him in the years ahead. More than a tribute to this one artist, however, this film is dedicated to ALL who seek to live life as the truest version of themselves.
Upside Down & Backwards: a film from Hill & Valley Creative, the Fambro family, an international community of fans, friends, and those who believe in the transformative power of a single life lived from the heart. All funds gathered through donations, grants, and other sources will be used for filming, travel for interviews, archival restoration, narrative development, editing, post-production, and distribution.
We are grateful for any/all donations in any/all amounts.
